Alpine Process Technology Summit | Lignin

More than 125 years of know-how

In the past, the natural raw material lignin was considered a by-product of the production of pulp or bioethanol. Up to now, lignin was mainly utilised thermally. Today, it is also used as a renewable raw material for a wide range of products. Each application requires different process steps to refine your lignin. The Hosokawa Micron Group has many years of experience with customised process solutions for lignin.

Register now for the Alpine Process Technology Summit | Lignin and learn how to get the most out of your lignin process.

In-depth knowledge for the lignin processing industry

At our Alpine Process Technology Summit | Lignin we will provide you with profound know-how on lignin processing:

  • Compaction and granulation
  • Milling and classifiying
  • Drying and mixing
  • Conveying, packing and storage

In addition to expert lectures from the Hosokawa Micron Group, further experts will be sharing their expertise, first and foremost our partner Lignopure. In addition we have arranged a visit to our test center. This gives you the knowledge you need to make your lignin process efficient and obtain a high-quality product.

Alpine Process Technology Summit | Lignin: Programme

The Alpine Process Technology Summit | Lignin takes place on the Hosokawa Alpine factory premises in Augsburg. Participation is free of charge (accommodation not included).

  • Wednesday, 15 May 2024, from 9:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, 16 May 2024, 9:00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Please note that the number of attendees is limited. The conference will be held in English. Additionally, we would like to ask you to bring safety shoes.

Further programme items will be added in the following days.

Wednesday, 15 May 2024

From 9:00 a.m.

  • How to bring particles to the right size – an overview about milling and classification technology
  • Thermoplastic materials, functional additives or carbonized materials all have different requirements for particle size of Lignin. Here you can find out how you can reach the required fineness including live demonstration.

Speaker: Peter Dorsch

  • You will learn which points you need to pay attention to during sampling, sample preparation and particle size measurement in order to obtain a result that is representative and correct for the product. The analysis method must be adapted to the product and the expected target range.

Speaker: Dr. Panos Kouris, MSc.

  • Drying of filter cake is an essential process to get dry lignin. How you can do it in an energy efficient way and under consideration of dust explosion protection we will show you in that presentation. Further on mixing of dry Lignin with other powder or liquids is a possibility to increase the value of Lignin. Here we show you different batch and conti solutions.

  • Have you always wanted to take a look behind the scenes at Hosokawa Alpine? Then the Alpine Process Technology Summit | Lignin is the place to be! Our experts will be happy to answer your questions during a guided tour of our production, assembly and test centre.

Speaker: Sönke Detjen

  • Opportunities and Challenges for Lignin as a Sustainable and Functional Component in Thermoplastic and Elastomer Compounds

  • What are the critical points when starting lignin production and how can we solve them?

  • We will round off the day with a joint dinner. In relaxed surroundings you will have time for networking with other participants.

Thursday, 16 May 2024

09:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • You want to avoid a dusty, explosive powder with low bulk density. Therefore, cmpaction is your choice to form powder into dustfree granules and briquettes. With a roller press you can compact powder without any binder. We will show you how it works in theory and in live demonstration.

Speaker: Tobias Meixner

  • How to convey and store a dust explosive material like lignin? How to handle sensitive granule gently, so they will not be destroyed? How to handle powderized lignin with all its properties? Let us show you the solutions and references.
  • More information about Hosokawa Solids

Speaker: Dr. Ievgen Pylypchuk

Speakers: Wienke Reynolds, Christin Zimmer

  • Major hurdles for lignin valorisation and approaches to overcome them
  • More information about Lignopure
