Optimum quality with the right mill

The production and processing of synthetic wax poses a major challenge for production facilities: Waxes come with the risk of dust explosion and temperature sensitivity – even slight temperature fluctuations during production or processing can have a significant effect on the quality of the end product. The large variety of possible applications for industrial waxes is yet another factor. Whether as a coating for fruit and vegetables or as a component for façade protection, each area of application has its own specific requirements for the production facilities. In many applications, for example for printing inks or coatings, wax must also be ground to an extremely fine consistency. The equipment and systems from Hosokawa Alpine offer individual solutions for these special requirements.

The right mill for your wax production

The process for fine grinding waxes is carried out at the ambient temperature. Some varieties require additional cooling. The quality of the wax is highly dependent on the type of mill used. The following points are decisive factors in the choice of mill:

  • Grinding characteristics of the mill
  • the desired fineness and particle shape of the ground wax
  • Temperature sensitivity of the respective wax
  • Field of application of the respective wax

Our various systems and equipment take all of these requirements into consideration. Product-related constraints such as temperature sensitivity, anti-static requirements, explosion protection or cleaning are also included. Hosokawa Alpine offers individual solutions for wax grinding processes, particularly with a d50 of 1 to 10 µm. For you, this means that you get the best possible results from your industrial wax production.

Examples of end applications for industrial wax

Synthetic waxes are used in a wide range of applications. To ensure that fruit and vegetables are able to survive transport without damage and keep an attractive shine in the supermarket, they are coated with a thin layer of wax. In the textile industry, industrial wax is used for dirt repulsion or to smooth seams.

Waxes are also found in care products for leather, cars and floors. In these applications, they protect against moisture, dirt and corrosion as well as provide a beautiful shine. Polyethylene waxes are used in the manufacture of printing inks and coatings for purposes such as scuff protection and scratch resistance enhancers. PE waxes are also used in road construction: They reduce the temperature of the surface during the transport and laying processes.
