Bio-based and compostable packaging

Bio-based and compostable film packaging forms the basis for future-proof packaging concepts. It replaces fossil-based raw materials with renewable alternatives and reduces the environmental impact throughout the entire value chain. At the same time, it meets the requirements of modern packaging applications with high stability and reliable barrier properties.

Whether it’s packaging for fresh produce, bin liners or mulch films: compostable blown films offer high biological compatibility whilst also impressing with their quality, functionality and performance.

Bio-based and compostable films in practice

Blown film can be used flexibly for a wide variety of compostable packaging applications. Through the choice of material, layer structure and processing, the right film can be created for every application, whether it requires a bio-based formulation, a reduced fossil content or robust performance characteristics.

Mulch film in the field

For soil-degradable formulations

Mulch film

Mulch films retain moisture in the soil and suppress weeds. At Alpine Anlagen, they are also produced from biodegradable biopolymers which, depending on the material and certification, can be left in the field after harvest.

Bio-based cling film

Made from bio-based materials

Cling film

Cling film keeps food fresh. At Alpine facilities, it is also produced using bio-based raw materials, which reduce the proportion of fossil-based materials – depending on the formulation – whilst remaining practical for everyday use.

Compostable organic waste bin liner

Made from compostable biopolymers

Organic bin liners

Organic bin liners are made from compostable biopolymers. On Alpine blown film lines, you can process these materials into tear-resistant bags, the compostability of which depends on the formulation and certification of the raw material.

Fruit and vegetable bags

For your daily fresh food shopping

Fruit and vegetable bags

Fruit and vegetable bags are used to carry fresh produce in everyday life. On Alpine production lines, they are manufactured from bio-based raw materials with the necessary tear resistance and, depending on the design, may also be compostable.

Alpine blown film lines

Alpine mono- to 5-layer production lines are designed to offer flexibility in the processing of bio-based and compostable raw materials, ranging from mono-film to barrier laminates containing PVOH.
