Bavarian Millers’ Association visits Hosokawa Alpine
Insights into the theory and practice of milling and classifying
On 30 April 2026, nearly 40 members of the Bavarian Millers’ Association (Bayerischer Müllerbund) stopped off at Hosokawa Alpine as part of a study trip. There, they were warmly welcomed by CEO Michael Kuhnen and staff from Hosokawa Alpine’s Food Division and gained practical insights into the technologies of the engineering company, which specialises in powder processing equipment.
A varied programme covering theory and practice
The visit first took the participants to the manufacturing area and test centre at Hosokawa Alpine. There, the visitors were able to see the company’s various mills and classifiers in action and gain an impression of the wide range of applications for the technologies. Following a welcome by Michael Kuhnen and Josef Rampl, Managing Director of the Bavarian Millers’ Association, there was a detailed presentation of Hosokawa Alpine and the Hosokawa Micron Group. Daniel Lachhammer, Field Sales Engineer, and Melanie Sigmund, Sales Manager, explained the key features of the various machines, systems and solutions for ultra-fine grinding. The focus was on applications of particular interest to the members of the Bavarian Millers’ Association: the grinding of husks or bran, as well as protein shifting for the enrichment of plant proteins. A joint lunch in Hosokawa Alpine’s guest canteen rounded off the event.
Part of a five-day study tour
The visit to Hosokawa Alpine marked the start of a five-day study tour that took the participants to Ticino and northern Italy. Following the stop in Augsburg, further stops in Switzerland were on the itinerary, including Bühler AG and Mulino Maroggia. In addition to professional exchanges, there was also plenty of time for shared experiences – such as a boat trip on Lake Maggiore to the Borromean Islands.
The Bavarian Millers’ Association (Bayerischer Müllerbund e.V.), founded in 1910 in Landshut, is today the professional association with the largest membership for millers in Germany. Its aim is to play a key role in shaping the future of the milling trade.
